Pietratorcia Wine Cellars

From April to October, the Pietratorcia Wine Cellars of Forio of Ischia Island are opened for visiting with a possibility to have dinner or to taste the wines accompanied by some delicacies of the local cuisine prepared by the skillful hands of Rossana who has been devoting herself to this wonderful company for 10 years. The ‘Must eat’ dish here is a rabbit ‘All’ischitana’ , bread and tomatoes, small fried pastries with herbs and do not forget to try the typical fish dishes. Cheeses and cured meats accompanied by the excellent wine are the best company to enjoy the magnificent panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea on one side and Mount Epomeo on the other with.
But it’s not only about wine. Pietratorcia is a family, a tradition. Over seven hectares of land were planted with selected grapes where grow Biancolella, Forastera, Uva Rilla, Viognier, aromatic Malvasia di Candia, Fiano and Greco grapes for white wines, and Guarnaccia, Piedirosso, Aglianico and Sirah grapes for red wines.

The Pietratorcia Cellars can host paties and small ceremonies. The wine tastings take place in the Pietratorcia Restaurant, a cool, refreshing environment that overlooks the garden full of fruits and herbs andforms part of the vineyard complex.

The Pietratorcia also stages a number of special wine and music evenings with fabulous food, served in their restaurant. The music ranges from Bossa Nova to Jazz, traditional Neopoletan and Ischian folk music, to more modern sounds and styles produced by local musicians.

The wine cellars

Green tuff dotted with tiny sparkling bits of sanidine crystals appears on the walls of the wine cellars built at the end of the 18th century. These striking surroundings are home to steel tanks and small oak barrels in which select white and red wines are aged and where the aromas of fine bottles of wine are matured. One cannot help but notice the “pietra torcia”: a huge, heavy block of tuff with three holes (one at the top and two on the sides) used in the past centuries to press the grapes according to a complex system of ropes and levers, before the winepress became a common tool used by island vintners. This tool from bygone days represents the line of products from the winery.
Wine tasting, parties and cultural events
Wine tasting sessions and an elegant combination of wines and typical local products such as artisan cheeses and sausages from the Campania region are held in front of the wine cellars, on the patio and beneath the pergola.
